The “Princess Anio” Opera project was created to mark a golden milestone in Vietnam-Japan relations. Acecook Vietnam is honored to partner with this meaningful project to help strengthen the bond between the people of our two countries for the future!

On September 21, 1973, Vietnam and Japan established diplomatic relations. Since then, the friendly and cooperative relationship between the two countries has grown continuously across all fields. In 2023, Vietnam and Japan celebrate the 50th anniversary of this diplomatic establishment, a significant occasion to reflect on a relationship often described as having “unlimited potential.”

The “Princess Anio” Opera Project

The opera “Princess Anio” consists of 4 acts and 13 scenes, based on a true story from the vibrant history of exchange and friendship between Vietnam and Japan in ancient times. It depicts the mutual respect between the two nations that existed even then: “Araki Sotaro was a Red Seal ship merchant in the early 17th century who traveled from Nagasaki to Đàng Trong (modern-day Central Vietnam). Having earned the trust of Lord Nguyễn, he was granted permission to marry Princess Ngọc Hoa. Sotaro then brought Princess Ngọc Hoa back to Nagasaki. There, she was affectionately called ‘Anio-san’ by the people of Nagasaki and lived out the rest of her life in the city.”

Under the baton of the talented conductor Honna Tetsuji and featuring the gifted Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra (VNSO), the “Princess Anio” Opera project promises to be a major highlight of the 50th anniversary of Japan-Vietnam diplomatic relations. It helps us reminisce about the shared past of Vietnam and Japan, thereby further tightening the bond between our peoples for the future.
