Muong Tip is a remote commune on the Vietnam – Laos border, more than 35km away from the center of Muong Xen town. There are totally 510 households in the commune, but up to 412 households are poor (accounting for 80%) who are mostly Kho Mu, Mong, and Thai ethnic groups. Their livelihoods depend on the income from forest products and mountainous farming. At present, the commune has not got access to electricity, so the people’s lives are very difficult.
The program of “The warmth for the border” was organized by Anh Xu Nghe club with the support of donors and other organizations, in collaboration with Ky Son Youth Union, the Border Guard Office 543, and Muong Tip communal authority. The team offered 70 gifts including 70 blankets, hundreds of clothes and many types of food such as salt, fish sauce, instant noodles, etc. with the total value of more than 70 million for 70 poor households in the commune.
The warm blankets and clothes from Vinh city were given to Muong Tip people.
Mr. Nguyen Trong Sach – the leader of the voluteer team shared that “with the desire to bring a warm and happy Tet to the ethnic minority people, the members of the team have run the program for months to call for donnation of money, materials, and auctioned the products of Xu Nghe photpgraphy club. They are only small gifts, but they carry our hearts toward the border of the country and the desire to make contribution to reduce the cold and hungry”.
Not only bringing the material gifts to the ethnic minority people, the young team also brought to the mountainous students a lot of books, notebooks, stories, pens, and other learning aids as the encouragements for their efforts in studying. Receiving these gifts with full of human love, the ethnic minority people were very happy. In particular, grandparent Ha Anh Xo of Pha Noi group emotionally shared that “The people here are very poor and have many difficulties. This cold year, we are so happy to receive a lot of gifts from them”.
Acknowledging that the charity team would come to give gifts to the people, 24-year-old Xong Nhia Vu of Vang Ngo group came to the center of the commune to receive the gifts from the team. “I am so happy that this year we will no longer have to suffer from the cold like previous years. We will have warm blankets and clothes as well as food to eat. We are grateful to you”, Mr. Nhia happily thanked to the volunteers while holding the blanket received from them.
Holding the warm blankets and clothes, this Tet will be warmer for Muong Tip people.
Mr. Ha No Thai – Deputy Chairman of Muong Tip People’s Committee shared with the reporter of Dan Tri that “Muong Tip commune is still in difficulties and hardships. The people mostly live on the mountainous farms and the commute is difficult, so we are still very poor. The charity programs like this one share the poverty and hardships with us. We hope that in the future, there will be more pratical activities like this to help disadvantaged people in other remote areas”.
Saying goodbye to the people of Muong Tip commune at noon, the members of the team all felt happy because we helped the people here reduce the difficulties in their lives. Although the gifts are not materially big, they show the volunterism of the young people who always think of the disadvantaged families and villages.
